|NWO invites proposals for the programme PhDs in the Humanities. Aim of the funding instrument is to increase the number of young talented researchers in the humanities, and to facilitate their progression on the academic career ladder. Deadline for submitting applications is March 7, 2019. The budget available for 2019 is € 3.2 million. Funding can be requested for a standard PhD research project (4 years, 1 fte or 5 years, 0.8 fte) or a PhD position for a lecturer (5 years, 0.5 fte).|
|If you are planning to apply, then please take the restriction into account for the Open Competition SSH, regarding NWO projects which started after September 25, 2018: an applicant may submit a new application no more than one year before the planned end date (i.e. end date last appointment) of the NWO funded project that has the longest duration and for which he/she is the applicant/project leader.|
|The grant covers the personnel costs of the PhD. Material costs for research are remunerated to a limited extent. With the budget about twenty PhD positions can be financed for 2018 (dependent on the requested budget). A matching of 20% of the budget of every funded project is required by the submitting universities.
Applications can only be submitted for PhD students who have been selected by the deans of the faculties involved in Sustainable Humanities, namely: Utrecht University, University of Amsterdam, University of Groningen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, VU University Amsterdam, Leiden University, Radboud University Nijmegen, Maastricht University, Tilburg University and the Open University. The person who actually submits the PhD project is the supervisor. A second supervisor can act as co-applicant.
